IFLC CHEER SQUAD TEAM

The EMS cheer group had a wonderful time at the IFLC celebrating diversity with the Colours of the World on stage. Their enthusiasm and passion added joy to the event and their energy was as lively as that of the performers.

Below are the reflections from two group members:

On Saturday the 26th of October, I had the opportunity to take part in the Sirius College cheer squad for the 17th Colours of the World: International Festival of Language and Culture. This was an experience I am extremely grateful for as not only was I able to watch the show from a great view, I also made some new friends. The bus journey to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre was extremely joyful. The mood of the students was very uplifting and we were all hyped up from the first moment. It was clear that the school had done a great job in choosing their cheer squad. At the actual venue, the Sirius girls were the most energetic in the room. We yelled and screamed from the top of our lungs for all the participants and it was evident that the audience around us was encouraged to do the same. Personally, my favourite performances had to be the one done by PNG as well as the duet by Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The cheer squad is something I’d definitely recommend for anyone with a loud voice or anyone that’s simply interested in making some new friends. Not only did we get to make new friends from our own campus, we were able to meet the international participants, take photos and mingle with our guests. It was extremely worthwhile considering I made some friends from another country and at the end of the whole event, the PNG team gifted my friend and I their handmade banana necklaces which they wore during their performance. Although I ended up losing my voice by the end of the night, it was definitely worth it!
